How cool was this guy....Wanted to drive in the real LeMans for the movie but they wouldnt let him because of insurance reasons. Nice to know that he enjoyed a very cool ride. Check out the price of the car....

If you haven't seen it, get ahold of a copy of the book "McQueen's Machines" - great stories and pics of the guy's life around cars, planes, motorcycles, and trucks. He was a car-guy, for sure.

LeMans is one of my favorite movies ever. Ive read alot about the making of it and its just insane what they did to make it so true to life.

McQueen was a hero to a lot of us for sure. I need to find that movie and watch it again. Thoughts on how to do that?

Watched the movie last week and beleive it or not for the first time. It isn't shown often and it bombed when released.
It was too "true" and unless you were a car guy people weren't interested.
Grand Prix did much better but LeMans was much more "true to life"
GAWD looking at those old Gulf Porches brought back memories.
Anyone remember the Porsche 917-30 that was an absolute monster at the time.
Oh, and on that $7495.00 Cobra price, you have to remember that back then you could buy a Ford sedan for $2500.00 and a Corvette in 1970 was based at app $5500.00
The Cobra was a VERY expensive car in it's time.

Grand Prix was good....but for me there's just something about LeMans that I love. I saw Grand Prix once, and that was enough, but I can watch LeMans over and over. That slow motion scene of that Ferrari driver runing from his car is classic!!! (by the way, when my brother gets drunk, he can re-enact it perfectly)
