With the crew at the annual Carlisle Replica Nationals for the weekend, I decided to have a little bit of fun and drive up to the Bass Pro Shops Cruise-In at Patriot Place in Foxboro, MA. John Buchannon from the Mass Cruisers Car Club has started something that has become quite impressive. Every other Thursday night at Patriot Place, people from all over bring their hot rods, customs, muscle cars, and classics for a fun early evening cruise-in. Close to 2,500 cars of all different types gather and the event is super fun and super laid back.

The weather last night was absolutely perfect – clear skies, 75 degrees, and clear weather forecasted for the next few days. I grabbed the keys to the Coupe and headed up with Nate Johnson, our plant manager. Nate took his orange supercharged Mk3 Roadster.

We has a total of 6 Roadsters, 2 Coupes, and a GTM. The godfather of the Bass Pro Shops Joe Mascierelli brought his beautiful red GTM that he drives everywhere. Customer Ron Everitt and John Takvorian drove their Roadsters and Gregg Pellegrino and his son drove their absolutely stunning blue Type 65 Coupe. Gregg’s Coupe won Best in Show at last year’s Open House.

You never know who you are going to meet at these kind of events and I was fortunate to spend time with Steven Howitt, one of our Massachusetts State Reps who works on the transportation committee and who is a HUGE car guy and supporter of custom car legislation.

Special thanks to John Buchannon and the Mass Cruisers Car Club volunteers for hosting a great time! The show wrapped up around 7:30 and I drove my Type 65 Coupe home about an hour south down to Barrington, RI and then enjoyed a cool early morning drive into work.

John Takvorian’s Mk4 Roadster won Best in Show – Roadster a few years ago at the Factory Five Open House and since has racked up over 5,000 miles. John’s car attracted the photographer and model from Median Magazine.

Ron Everitt’s Roadster just returned from the Huntington Beach Cruise-In and continues to pile on the street miles with his odometer now over 30,000!

Nothing like a cool morning drive into work to start the day.

2,500 cars! Wow! That's crazy. I wonder how these things get started? Cars and Coffee (C&C) for example. I know they are in a lot of different cities now. That's a BIG grass-roots movement.

Thanks for the write up Dave. I think I'll hit up C&C Irvine or Donut Derelicts this weekend.

Man I miss Donut Derelicts, and not just for the donuts!

It's been way too long since I've been out there... :(

Yes Mark, it has been way too long since your last trip to California. Try and talk the magazine into letting you come to Huntington Beach again in 2014.
