I had posted a thread this morning looking for recommendations on gasket sealer since I had discovered a leak in my water pump after about 15 minutes of running my new engine. Got the Permatex anaerobic sealer so I am set there. Had my friend at NAPA order what I thought was the right gaskets for a pre 1994 Ford 5.8L engine (mine is a 351W based 410) and using the Ford M-8501-G351 water pump (standard rotation). Neither of the gaskets fit. The plate to pump had the holes in the right location but the channels were wrong and the holes in the pump to cover gaskets were way off. We looked at all of the water pump gaskets for 351W engines but none looked right.

Just wondering if anyone else is using the water pump and have replaced the gaskets? Would appreciate some part numbers if you have them.

Thanks,

Ron

The correct part number in the title should be M-8501-G351. I guess you can't edit the thread title.

Ron, I recently replaced the front crankshaft seal on my 427W. Its a 1974 -based 351W, and for about $11, I got the FelPro set from O'Reilly. Their PN is TCS45008. It came w/the new front crank seal, timing cover gasket, mechanical fuel pump gasket, and 2 waterpump gaskets as shown in attached pic.

Will

Thanks Will.

I looked at the Ford Racing catalog in hopes of finding a gasket set for the water pump but no luck. However did find the phone number for Ford Racing Tech support so gave them a call. Was told that the G351 Ford Racing aluminum water pump is same as unit on 1983-1985 Crown Vic with either 302 or 351W engine. Had my friend at NAPA order a set for this application. Will pick them up this morning and hopefully they will work.
