Switched gears while waiting on fiberglass repair materials and started rough fitting the trunk lid. It turns out that that was a mistake as once the body was mounted on the chassis the shape of the trunk opening changed enough that I had to rework the spoiler. That's how we learn -- making mistakes and correcting them.
In laminar flow it should produce ~500lbs of downforce at 150 MPH. However, mounted behind the top I'll be lucky to get half that which is exactly what I'm looking for.
That's right, the rear window which is too small to be of much good anyway is now about useless with that huge aluminum spoiler mounted so high. I needed a specific angle of attack and to mount it as high as possible. Yes a wing mounted above the roofline would have been better but NHRA rules on wings make that a much more difficult choice on this car. Spoilers can simply be mounted to the trunk lid.
Might have to consider adding a backup camera.
